The pre-ride check
Before you ride, check the basics: tyre pressure, that the wheels are secure, and that both brakes work. A thirty-second check prevents most avoidable roadside problems.
Keep it clean and lubricated
A clean, lightly lubricated chain runs smoother, shifts better and lasts longer. Wipe the drivetrain after wet or dirty rides and re-apply chain lubricant sparingly.
Know when to get help
Some jobs — brakes, gears, wheels, anything safety-critical you are unsure about — are worth taking to a shop. There is no shame in it, and it keeps you safe.
