About the Journal

What SocialSportHub Journal publishes, how it relates to the knowledge platform, and who produces it.

What this is for

SocialSportHub is a reference platform: thousands of evergreen pages describing sports, surfaces, techniques, rules, equipment and the science underneath them. Reference pages are deliberately neutral. They describe what a thing is, not what it means.

The Journal is where the argument goes. It exists to explain mechanisms and draw conclusions — why a surface changes which skills win, why a rule exists at all, what a venue is actually engineered to do. Where an encyclopedia entry says what clay is, the Journal says what clay does to a match.

How it relates to the encyclopedia

Every story links out to the evergreen pages it draws on, and those links are curated by hand and checked against the platform's real URL set when this site is built. Nothing here is matched by keyword: a story points at a reference page because an editor decided it should, and because that page exists.

How it is built

The Journal is a separate application with its own repository and its own deployments, published at a path on socialsporthub.com rather than on a subdomain. Readers should not have to know that, and nothing in the reading experience depends on it — it means the publication can ship without rebuilding the platform, and the platform can ship without rebuilding the publication.

Ordinary story pages ship no JavaScript at all. That is a deliberate product decision: the Journal's product is reading, and a page of prose should not cost a reader a framework runtime.

What it is not

The Journal does not give medical, coaching, injury-prevention, dietary or safety advice, and it does not report on results, transfers or selection. It explains how sport works.
