Positions & roles

Definition

A striker is an attacking player who plays furthest up the pitch and is chiefly responsible for scoring goals. In football and futsal, the striker leads the team's attack, positioning to receive passes, create shooting chances and finish moves close to the opposition goal.

Strikers are judged largely on their finishing, movement and ability to find space behind defenders. They also press opposing defenders and hold the ball up to bring team-mates into play, so awareness and timing matter as much as pure shooting.
