Baseball

Batting, base-running and teamwork on the diamond

Some learning curveAdjustable intensityTeam sport

Overview

Baseball is a bat-and-ball team sport played on a diamond-shaped field, where two teams alternate between batting and fielding. The batting side tries to hit a pitched ball and run around a series of bases to score, while the fielding side works to get batters out.

It blends short, explosive actions — a pitch, a swing, a sprint or a throw — with tactical positioning and teamwork. Batting cages and casual games make it easy to practise the basics, and the mix of skills means there is a place for a wide range of players.

Why baseball is good for your health

  • Sprinting between bases and in the field provides bursts of cardio
  • Develops hand–eye coordination and timing through hitting and catching
  • Builds throwing power and rotational strength
  • Improves agility and quick reactions
These are general, well-established benefits of regular activity — not medical claims. If you have a health condition or have been inactive for a while, check with a healthcare professional before starting something new.

The social side

  • A team game that builds communication and shared purpose
  • Casual and recreational leagues welcome new players
  • Different positions let players contribute in the way that suits them
